This past week we held our second auction of the year. Some interesting lots changed hands, and there were a few items that brought some high prices (for us) and competitive bidding. Let's take a look, as we usually do in this AAR (After Auction Report!). For starters:

Manchukuo was a "puppet state" set up by Japan in Northern China from 1932 until the end of World War II in 1945. Some stamps of Manchukuo can be commonly found in collections, but this assemblage contains some uncommon items and can fill in some holes. This had a starting bid of $0.50 and was bid up to sell at $2.00.

This early United States Classic has some heavier cancel, but George's face is clean. WIth a starting bid at 1/9th of catalog value, someone was sure to pick it up, and did, for the minimum of $50.

A box like this of old letters, covers, and correspondence is a popular item at our auctions. Everyone loves to dig through and discover a treasure. This lot was bid up from its reserve of $2.00 to find a new home at $5.00.

In every auction we have "Club Donation" lots. These are materials that are donated by club members or people who seek out the club via this website with material they have for example found in the attic or was left to them in an inheritance and they have no use for. In these cases we offer the material in our auction and use the proceeds to pay for our club expenses -- monthly room rentals, refreshments, website costs, etc. This lot and the next are two of the club donation lots in this auction. In this case, it was the most competitively bid lot of the night. A relatively full album of Scandinavian countries, with many full sets, used and unused. While the minimum bid was $5.00, two of the club members bid this up non-stop until the hammer dropped at $55.00. I think those two knew what they were looking at!

Finally this set of three albums was quite packed with stamps of the world. While the bids started at $2.00, several persistent club members elevated the final selling price to $12.00. What a fun way to fill holes in your collection for not a lot of money! Join our club and you too can participate and build a great collection for not a lot of money! Until next time...
