At our August program meeting (first Thursday of each month -- August 7th) we ran our four-times-per-year auction. Each member can auction up to ten lots, and lots can also be denoted as "Club Donation" lots -- with the proceeds going to the club general fund.

One of our most knowledgeable members Nick runs the auction and truly enjoys getting caught up in the drama of the bidding wars that often occur.

Here are a handful of lots that I thought were interesting and worth sharing on the blog:

A beautiful Schaubek Soviet Union album in slipcase in excellent condition, with a fair number of stamps. Minimum bid $1, this was a club donation lot. Hammer dropped at $6 for the lucky buyer!

A pre-Communist China collection, with probably 250 or so stamps on loose album pages. The airmails alone cataloged well over $30. Minimuim bid was set at $2. Amazingly, this lot did not sell!

This was probably the most valuable item in the auction. a beautiful mint no-hinge set cataloging $1,100.00, the lot was set at a minimum bid of $50. Unbelievably, no takers!

One of the most unusual lots in this auction was a binder with a collection of Topps trading cards from the Desert Storm war with Iraq. This collection had a minimum bid of $1 and garnered a winning bid of $6.

Finally this is a random page -- Rio Muni and Romania -- from a 4" thick binder with catalog pages that appeared to be from a Statesman album. Containing hundreds and hundreds of stamps, this was a Club Donation lot with no minimum bid. The lucky purchaser took this home for only one dollar!
